Melissa Thoen, LCSW is a multilingual psychotherapist based in NYC. She identifies as a Latino, cis, heterosexual woman who has over the past 15 years dedicated herself to the mental health field.
Melissa is also a fitness enthusiast and an avid athlete. Her passion lies in completing endurance events and pushing herself to new levels but she didn’t start competing until she was in her thirties. Melissa’s own self-care plan includes triathlons and living a balanced life (including the occasional beer and burger).

Remain patient and consistent.
Don’t compare yourself to other women. We are all facing different realities.
Set a date when you want to start your fitness journey so you can hold yourself accountable.
Take a chance. Just like in relationships where you will be vulnerable. Try something different. Explore activities you wouldn’t try before. You never know what you are going to find out about yourself or discover who you could be.
